Most small-business firewalls we see are either a consumer router pretending to be a firewall, or a business-grade box whose rules have not been touched since it was installed — sometimes a decade ago. Nobody remembers what half the rules do, the VPN drops twice a week, and the guest Wi-Fi shares a network with the security cameras. We start there, not with a product catalog.

The goal is a firewall you do not have to think about: threats stay out, the VPN stays up, guests stay on their own network, and every rule has a reason. We document what we changed and why, so the next person who touches it — us or your in-house IT — is not guessing.
What this service includes
- Firewall audit: what you have, what the rules actually do, and what is expired or misconfigured
- Rule cleanup — removing years of accumulated allow-anywhere entries nobody can explain
- Network segmentation for staff, guests, cameras, phones, and smart devices
- VPN setup or repair so remote access works without dropping
- Right-sized replacement when the hardware is end-of-life or underpowered
Problems we fix
- A consumer router doing a firewall’s job
- Firewall rules nobody understands and everyone is afraid to touch
- Guest Wi-Fi on the same network as business systems or cameras
- VPN connections that drop, or remote access with no VPN at all
- Licenses expired years ago on a box everyone assumed was protecting them

Platforms and environments
Fortinet, SonicWall, Ubiquiti UniFi, Meraki, and pfSense — plus the ISP-provided gateways we often end up replacing. We work in small offices, retail spaces, professional practices, and premium homes where the network has outgrown its equipment.
Frequently asked questions
Do we need a business firewall, or is our router enough?
If you have staff, guests, cameras, or anyone working remotely, a consumer router is not enough — it cannot segment networks, run a reliable VPN, or show you what is actually hitting your network. We will tell you honestly if your current gear is fine.
Can you work with the firewall we already have?
Usually yes. We audit what is there first — firmware, rules, licenses — and clean it up. We only recommend replacement when the hardware is end-of-life, underpowered for your internet speed, or missing features you actually need.
Will this slow down our internet?
A correctly sized firewall will not. Slowdowns usually come from an old box trying to inspect traffic on a connection five times faster than it was built for — which is exactly what the audit catches.
The experience behind it
Firewall work is where our background shows: we have spent 25 years designing perimeter security for environments where a misconfigured rule is a real incident, not a ticket. You talk directly with the person doing the work.
